Why worry about learning 47 positions or esoteric tantric rituals? Massage is a far more practical skill for lovers. Make your partner feel good, and they just might return the favor.

The secrets to a good massage are simple: motivation and practice. Massage tables and tools are nice, but not necessary. Books, DVDs and courses can be valuable, but won't substitute for the desire to please. Some fancy massage oils are great (I have my favorite), but most vegetable oils can do a decent job.
If you want to go all-out in giving a sensual massage, start by thinking about all the senses. Music that soothes. A little scented oil or perfume. Turn down the lights and use candles or a lava lamp. A drink or a small spread of exotic foods.
Massage tables have a number of advantages over a bed or floor. They make it easier to work on a person - your back doesn't sore as quickly. They are also more comfortable for the person getting the massage. Matresses generally don't have less support, which can make a differnce.
A few years ago, I bought a massage textbook that is widely used in schools that train and certify masseurs. At times, it is a bit pedantic and boring, but it has a lot of detailed information.
There are a handful of safety considerations for giving a partner a massage. These include being careful in the danger zones and avoiding deep tissue work unless trained to do so. The danger zones are areas where nerves or blood vessels are relatively close to the surface. Danger zones include the neck, the eyes, the armpits, the elbows, the area around the kidneys, the sides of the groin, and behind the knees. Massage in these areas should be limited to light (or VERY light) pressure.
Deep tissue massage can be very beneficial if administered properly, but can cause damage if one is not careful. The minature valves in veins (especially in the legs) can be damaged if too much pressure is used. As a rule of thumb, untrained masseurs should never inflict discomfort or pain. Leave the heavy duty therapeutic massage to trained professionals, but don't be afraid to give your lover a good caressing.
Oils pose an unusual danger when performing a sensual massage - they can partially dissolve the latex in a condom, increasing the risk of failure. Never use oils as a sexual lubricant if you use condoms for birth control or reducing the risk of disease - use a water based gel like Astroglide or KY Jelly.
