When it comes to erotic film, most directors cater to men to a degree that turns off women viewers. Zalman King's Red Shoe Diaries are a notable exception: they are well done, they have a plot, and they explore lots of different sexual scenarios and fantasies. These are officially classified as 'soft-core' as they don't show penetration. They do leave a little to the imagination, but only a little. These are a good compromise for women who get totally turned-off by standard triple-X films: more action than any R movie, but tasteful enough for female sensibilities.

Red Shoe started with a full length movie in 1992, and went on to produce 18 other video releases. The typical disk has three 30 minute stories. There is reportedly a new Red Shoes under production that will be released in 2006 or 2007.

Red Shoe Diaries are available for rental at many local video huts, although they are old enough so that a full selection may not be available everywhere. They are for sale at amazon.com.
