Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the questions people ask us most, about the site, aphrodisiacs and keeping things private.

About us

  • Aphrodisiology is a sex education site for curious adults. It started back in 2006 as a place to study aphrodisiacs, the foods, herbs and legends people have used to spark desire for thousands of years. Today we cover the whole picture: arousal, sexual health, positions, pleasure and keeping the spark alive.

  • A small team of writers who love this subject and take it seriously. We read the studies, talk to experts and test the advice against real life. Every guide lists its sources and gets refreshed when new research appears.

  • Yes. We write frankly about sex and bodies, so the site is only for people aged 18 and over.

  • No. Every guide is free, and you never need to sign up to read.

Aphrodisiacs and desire

  • Some have real, if modest, science behind them. Ashwagandha, maca and ginseng, for example, may help with stress, energy or blood flow, which can make desire easier. Others, like oysters, work mostly through mood and expectation. Each of our guides tells you honestly which camp a food or herb falls into.

  • Honestly? Feeling relaxed, wanted and close to someone. Sleep, less stress, good communication and a little anticipation beat any pill. Herbs and foods work best as a small boost on top of that.

  • Natural does not always mean gentle. Nutmeg in large amounts is toxic, Spanish fly is a poison and some herbs react with blood pressure or antidepressant medicines. Read the safety notes in each guide and check with a doctor first.

  • We can help you understand what might be going on and what to ask about, from low desire to erection worries. For a diagnosis or treatment, a doctor or sex therapist is the right person to see.

Privacy and the Sunday letter

  • Not from us. We do not sell data, we do not share what you read and you never need an account. For extra peace of mind, browse in a private window.

  • Calm and discreet. It comes from a neutral sender name with subject lines that are safe to open anywhere. Leaving takes one click.
